Using chronic cough guidelines early improves the clinical outcomes and quality of life of children with chronic cough. However, there are barriers to the recognition, diagnosis and management of Aborginal children with chronic wet cough.  The APPLE study aims to facilitate timely detection and optimal management of chronic wet cough in children at primary care clinics.

This is a multi-centre trial that will measure the effectiveness of a dual, simultaneous knowledge dissemination strategy for families and implementation strategy for primary care clinics, adapted for individual regions/communities and their respective primary care clinics, to improve the health of children with chronic wet cough. The study is led by Western Australian partners (A/Professor André Schultz and Dr Pamela Laird) and is funded by a National Health Medical Research Council partnership grant.
