Members of the CRE team were successful in the recently awarded NHMRC Project Grants, for projects to commence in 2018.

The funding announcement was made on November 10th at Menzies’ Royal Darwin Hospital campus by Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, and Minister for Indigenous Health, Ken Wyatt AM.

CRE Chief Investigator Professor Anne Chang will lead two of the successful projects, securing over $4 million for important clinical trials of treatments aimed at reducing respiratory disease in children.

One of Professor Chang's projects will focus on immunisation of mothers to prevent early-onset pneumonia in Indigenous infants. The other project will investigate the use of antibiotics to prevent repeated lung infections in children with neurological impairment.

Both of these studies are large, multi-centre trials and the preparations will keep the team busy in the new year.
