Two members of the CRE team have been awarded scholarships from the National Health and Medical Research Council to undertake their PhD studies.
Ms Jemima Beissbarth from the Menzies School of Health Research, will undertake research investigating the effect that vaccines and antibiotic use has on the bacteria involved in causing ear disease in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Dr Simon Smith is an infectious diseases physician based in Cairns. He will investigate factors invovled in the development of community-acquired pneumonia in tropical Australia.
