Bronchiectasis exacerbations, or flare-ups, have a major impact on those with bronchiectasis and leads to poor quality of life, a decline in lung function and increased healthcare costs. The Team has previously described how exacerbations should be defined in children, this study will be a validation study using a different cohort to produce a more robust definition for future clinical use.

Aim

To examine and validate a diagnostic criterion for acute bronchiectasis exacerbation in a new cohort.

Approach

Using bloods previously stored from completed the completed RCTs BEST 1 & 2 and prospectively collected clinical data, the previously defined criteria will be applied to this new cohort and evaluated. The full dataset will also be used to examine acute exacerbation phenotypes.
